Erasmus University Medical Center (the Netherlands)
Erasmus University Medical Center has a longstanding record of conducting emergency research elucidating the origin, transmission and epidemiology of virus, including mpox, as proven by a long publication track record. This includes detection in patients and the environment, sequencing, genomic analyses, serological profiling and clinical advice. The department also has a strong One Health focus, with integrated multidisciplinary teams allowing bringing in additional expertise when needed. Together with Stansile and Danmarks Tekniske Universitet the very first publicly available genome of the noble subclade in eastern DRC was generated and released.
In addition, together with several JUA KIVU partners Erasmus University Medical Center has conducted in-depth research on mpox since the beginning of the outbreak. Pilot studies involved sampling both of humans and of animals and bushmeat.
